Mount Martha Life Saving Club (MMLSC) and the Mount Martha community operate as a tightly connected ecosystem, each strengthening the other to create a safer, healthier, and more vibrant coastal environment. At its core, the club exists to provide beach patrols, educate children and adults in water safety, and offer a community venue for fitness, wellbeing, and surf sport participation . These functions directly support community safety and cohesion, ensuring that residents and visitors can enjoy the foreshore with confidence.
The club’s strategic vision emphasises “connecting communities beyond the flags,” reflecting its commitment to shaping diverse lifesaving programs, creating hubs for health and education, and unlocking the potential of members and volunteers . With 5,800 volunteer patrol hours each season, 162 active patrolling members, and a membership base of over 1,000 people, the club’s operations are deeply woven into the fabric of Mount Martha’s daily life .
Community members participate in programs such as Nippers, Starfish Nippers (all‑abilities), Seniors, Masters, Surf Boats, Icebergers, and fitness initiatives. These programs not only teach vital water safety skills but also build social connection, confidence, and resilience. Initiatives like the Surf Craft Artist and Appreciation Crew (SAAC) bring generations together through hands‑on board restoration, strengthening mental wellbeing and reducing isolation by fostering creativity and teamwork across all ages.
